In a recent development, Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel voluntarily surrendered before the Ranchi Civil Court to address a long-standing cheque bounce case. This legal matter, originating in 2018, involves accusations of fraud and non-payment against the renowned actress. Senior division judge DN Shukla granted her bail, instructing her to personally appear in court again on June 21.

Singh’s advocate, Vijaya Lakshmi Srivastava, mentioned that despite multiple summonses issued by the court, Patel had failed to appear. Consequently, a warrant was issued against her to ensure her compliance.

In August 2022, the Supreme Court intervened by staying the criminal proceedings related to cheating and criminal breach of trust, stemming from the summons issued by the trial court in Jharkhand. However, the court clarified that proceedings for offences punishable under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, which deals with cheque bounce, could continue as per the law.
This development followed Patel’s appeal against the May 5, 2022 order of the Jharkhand High Court, which had rejected her plea to quash and set aside the trial court’s order in Ranchi, in connection with the complaint lodged against her.
